Use languages, Multilingual mode, and romanization
Pick a focused language, switch naturally in Multilingual mode, or opt into Latin-script output where available.
Single-language dictation
Mach supports 80+ languages and regional variants. Choose the exact language or regional option you speak when your dictation stays in one language.
- 1Open Mach from the menu bar and choose Dictation Settings.
- 2Open Language and select your language or regional variant.
- 3Start the next dictation normally.
Multilingual mode
Multilingual mode preserves natural code-switching between English, Spanish, French, German, Hindi, Russian, Portuguese, Japanese, Italian, and Dutch. You do not need to preselect a pair.
A German phrase stays German and an English phrase stays English. Mach does not intentionally translate everything into one language.
Optional romanization
When Writing style appears for the selected language, you can keep the original script or ask Refined mode to use readable Latin letters. In Multilingual mode, this option is available for Hindi (Hinglish), Japanese (Romaji), and Russian (experimental Latin output).
- Romanization changes the writing system, not the language or meaning.
- Languages already written with Latin characters are preserved as spoken.
- Romanization is an AI refinement preference, so Raw mode keeps the speech-to-text output.
For the most predictable result
Use a single language when you are not switching mid-dictation. Use Multilingual only when your speech actually moves between its supported languages.
