macOSUpdated July 25, 2026

Mach cannot hear you

  1. 1Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone.
  2. 2Make sure Mach is enabled.
  3. 3In Dictation Settings, confirm the intended microphone is selected.
  4. 4Quit and reopen Mach after changing a macOS permission.

The transcript does not paste

  1. 1Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility.
  2. 2Make sure Mach is enabled.
  3. 3Place the cursor in an editable text field before dictating.
  4. 4Try a simple field such as TextEdit to separate an app-specific issue from a Mach issue.

A dictation cannot connect or finish

  1. 1Confirm that your Mac has a working internet connection.
  2. 2Open Mach from the menu bar and choose Reset Connection.
  3. 3Try a short dictation again.
  4. 4If it still fails, quit and reopen Mach.

Mach shows short, user-safe error messages in the dictation overlay. Technical server details are not shown there.
