Fix a microphone that is not recording

Allow microphone access

1. 1Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone.
2. 2Turn Mach on.
3. 3If Mach was already open, quit and reopen it.
4. 4Try a short dictation.

Check the selected microphone

1. 1Open Mach and choose Dictation Settings.
2. 2Under Microphone, select the device you are speaking into.
3. 3If you use a headset or external microphone, confirm that it is connected and not muted.
4. 4Speak close to the selected device and retry.

Separate the possible causes

• If other Mac apps also receive no audio, the problem is likely the input device or macOS setting.
• If Mach never enters the listening state, check the configured shortcut and restart Mach.
• If audio is captured but no transcript returns, follow the connection guide instead.
